We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a Welder position.

The encumbant should be able to weld steel bridge flooring components using hand held welding equipment. Report defects to quality assurance and make repairs using proper welding procedures. Replace welding consumables (I.E. shielding gas, weld wire, tips, insulators, etc.) using small hand tools and two wheel carts.

Welding Jobs Requirement

Physical Requirements: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Good visual acuity.


Ability To: One to two years experience in gas metal arc welding preferred. Reading, writing and remembering with average proficiency in mathematics.

Job Summary Welder Helper 
Repair and maintain all aspects of rail including frogs, rail-ends, turn-outs, switch points, and glue joints using arc, propane or thermite welding processes.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
  • Perform grinding tasks using power and hand tools
  • Inspect all equipment daily to check for leaky cylinders, hoses or connections
  • Assist other employees in changing out rail with rail tongs
  • Replace rail anchors, drive spikes and tamp ballast as needed
  • Clean work pieces to remove impurities, such as slag, rust and grease
  • Monitor and maintain flow of gases, light torch and adjust gas mixture and pressure to obtain desired flame when making field welds
  • Apply filler rod to molten area to form weld
  • Repair or replace broken or cracked rail and build-up rail, trim weld, grind the surface of rail, and grind gauge sides
  • Inspect weld after grinding to check for hairline cracks or any visible defects
  • Operate propane torches and electric and gas welding equipment
  • Operate heavy duty trucks to carry equipment to and from the work site
  • Test rail after using the thermite welding procedure to detect voids, lack of fusion or other defects in the rail

WELDING JOBS SKILLS

  1. Must have experience with the following weld processes GMAW, GTAW, SMAW
  2. Must be able to layout and fit work to blueprint specifications.
  3. Skilled in basic fitting & piping system layouts; Able to interpret blueprints and welding diagrams
  4. Measure, cut, prepare & perform fitting of segments of piping & structural steel
  5. Weld plate & structural steel in the flat, vertical, horizontal & overhead positions
  6. Weld plate & structural steel in accordance with ASME Section IX & AWS Dl.!
  7. Weld stainless steel & aluminum.
  8. Weld mild steel pipe in accordance with ASME section IX & API 1104
  9. Run overlapping beads; perform butt, fillet, socket & groove welds
  10. Weld 2"-5" pipe in the following positions: 2G, 5G & 6G
  11. Utilize assorted electrodes and filler metals

Minimum of 4 years of experience or a weld school certificate is required.
All candidates must have a good work history.

Welding Salary
PAY RANGE IS $18.63 - $21.36 per hour with $.75 shift differential
