Must take and pass two welding tests:
1st Test: 6 inch, schedule 40 coupon, tig root and hot pass only, will visually accept or reject.
2nd Test: 2 inch heavy wall that has .625 wall thickness. It is taken in the 6G position (ends covered) and is welded with a tig root with 70S2 tig wire to a .312 thickness. The remainder .312 thickness will be welded out with 7018. We will cut 4 straps and bend them.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Welding, Industrial, or Metallurgical Engineering. Other Engineering degrees (i.e., Associate in Applied Science-Welding Technology) considered based on experience.

Minimum 10 years of experience in welding engineering. Minimum 5 years of experience in metallurgy-related job responsibility.

Completed American Welding Society Welding Inspection course and holds an AWS Certified Welding Inspector Certificate.

There are 3 different levels of welders, all with different qualificaitons. This job description for the highest skill level. Candidates selected may have lower qualifications, with pay ranges reflecting the lower qualifications.

High school diploma/GED and/or 5 years experience with the basic GMAW (gas metal arc welding), SMAW (shielded metal arc welding), FCAW(flux cored arc welding), Oxy-fuel cutting, plasma arc cutting, and sub-arc welding.
Must have basic Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) knowledge.
Must know how to effectively use the following measuring devices and basic tools: tape measure, micrometer, calipers, square, level, angle finder, weld gages, clamps, and half clamp configurations. Along with safe porta-power operation and techniques.
Material handling equipment experience:
Must have ability to operate forklift safely.
Must have the ability and knowledge to rig properly and safely run an overhead style crane.
Machine list should include but not be limited to Miller and/or Lincoln power sources.
This position requires the knowledge of amperage, wire speed, and consumable replacement from liners, gas tips, and wire spool replacement on all the specified types of welding, including sub-arc, while still maintaining cost effectiveness.
Quality Standards and drawing Comprehension:
Identify basic welding symbols and components of a symbol (arrow, reference line, tail, size, length) in accordance with the current national welding symbol standard AWS A 2.4 along with ASME standards current edition.

Pre-hire weld testing
All potential new hires for this level must pass a weld test for GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, and sub-arc in accordance with ASME section 9.
All plate weld coupons are subject to CWI inspection, bend test, and X-ray before any applicant can be hired.
All level 3 coupons are standard carbon A-36 plate ½ inch in thickness in all positions.
Also reserve the right to require testing on stainless if there is a lack of experience in this area.
Technical competence (understand software, hardware, networks, etc).
Must have legal authority to permanently work in the U.S.

Qualifications:
Must possess an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Industrial Welding Licence.  Extensive experience in the areas of metal fatigue repair, mig, stick and gas welding repair procedures of highway construction and maintenance equipment, including oxygen and acetylene cutting and heating are essential.  Extensive experience in welding aluminum and stainless steel in all positions.   Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and have good communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge and skills in welding repair procedures, policies, safe working practices and safety and health regulations are essential.
 
Conditions of employment:  Must have own hand tools; possess a Valid Class 5 driver's licence;  able to travel within the province; must be able to work extended or irregular hours such as weekends/overtime.  The candidate must be physically capable of performing the duties including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (such as steel toed boots, hard hat, safety glasses, welding helmet, coveralls, leather sleeves or apron).  Must be capable of obtaining WHMIS certificate and Fork Lift Licence.  Must also be able to obtain a Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification if required.
 
Consideration will be given to apprentices working towards their licence and are currently registered with the Manitoba Apprentice Board.
Duties:
This position is responsible for complex welding and fabrication on all types of highway construction and maintenance equipment. Diagnose reasons of metal fatigue or metal stress problems and recommends and/or initiates corrective measures.
