Under the direction of the Manufacturing Manager is responsible for all technical aspects of welding fabrication used in the production process. Provide metallurgical expertise and consulting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reviews all quotations and purchase orders for welding and heat treating requirements. Translates requirements into procedures and work instructions used in the manufacturing process.

Develops welding and heat treating procedures required in the production of valves and components. Responsible for establishing and maintaining weld procedure qualifications.

Establishes and maintains records of Welder qualifications.

Provides technical expertise and consulting with respect to welding and metallurgy to all Engineered Products companies.

Works with Product and Development Engineers in the design and development of new products. Runs experiments or tests as required to evaluate new materials. Provides design of welded joints to meet design specification requirements.

Assures that all production fabrication welding and heat treating conforms to required Code standards and customer specifications.

Trains welders in the proper techniques to assure compliance to Code and procedure requirements.

Maintains a thorough understanding and working knowledge of ASME Section IX and other welding Codes. Reviews all Code revisions and incorporates changes to operating procedures necessary to maintain compliance.

May perform other special projects or duties as required.

Supervises 1st and 2nd shift welders
Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
Responsible for the hiring of welding personnel. Performs and maintains welder performance qualifications (WPQ) in accordance with company policy and Code requirements.
Monitors welder performance and provides training and instruction as required
Assigns weld procedures and details rework instruction to non conformance rework orders
Assures that all production welding and heat treating conforms to required Code standards, engineering procedures and customer specifications.
Recommends and implements quality improvement projects to reduce rework costs, scrap, and improve productivity as well as on-time delivery
Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
Demonstrates a high degree of expertise in the efficient operation of the weld shop; inspect parts to detect defects or malfunctions
Conducts performance evaluations, recommended merit increases, promotions, transfers, and other personnel actions for direct reports
Performs analysis of Daily Production Reports and Weekly Labor Utilization Reports and takes appropriate action as indicated
Oversees all Safety and Environmental compliance and training requirements
Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments
Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Welding, Industrial, or Metallurgical Engineering. Other Engineering degrees (i.e., Associate in Applied Science-Welding Technology) considered based on experience.

Minimum 10 years of experience in welding engineering. Minimum 5 years of experience in metallurgy-related job responsibility.

Completed American Welding Society Welding Inspection course and holds an AWS Certified Welding Inspector Certificate.

Ability to concentrate and work under pressure requiring close attention to details.

Must be able to schedule time, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Must demonstrate good organizational habits.

Must be able to work successfully with various disciplines.

Must have outstanding interpersonal, communication and leadership skills along with demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment throughout all levels of the organization

Candidate should be results oriented with good project management, organizational, prioritization, and team-based skills
