MEMBERSHIP IN THE  NATIONAL GUARD IS REQUIRED:

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Michigan National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Michigan National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the military grade listed in this announcement.




LOCATION: CSMS / Lansing, MI
AREAS OF CONSIDERATION
AREA 1 - Open to on-board permanent technicians of the MIANG or MIARNG (TENURE I or II Status).
AREA 2 - Open to current members of the MIANG or MIARNG.


COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: WOMOS: 914A  EMOS: 94, 91W, 91E
Selectee Must be assigned to a compatible MOS/AFSC within 12 months of appointment into the technician position and maintain satisfactory membership in the Michigan National Guard.


MAXIMUM MILITARY GRADE:CW4
Grade inversion within the full time workforce in not permitted. The military grade must not exceed that of the supervisor.

Brief Description of Duties:

Work involves jobs in welding metals and alloys.  The work requires knowledge of electric, gas, and other welding processes such as electron beam welding, and the skill to apply these processes in manufacturing, repairing, modifying, rebuilding, and assembling various types of metal and alloy parts, equipment, systems, and structures such as buildings, aircraft, and ships.  Many welders perform a variety of other work operations incidental to their welding duties, such as brazing, soldering, flame and arc-cutting, and surface hardening. Therefore such incidental work operations, other than welding, are mentioned at different grade levels in this standard.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the basic knowledge of welding processes.
Must have knowledge of technical orders, blueprints and specifications.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
MUST HAVE AT LEAST 18 MONTHS EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS
Experience or training demonstrating the application of a variety of electric resistance welding processes and equipment.
Experience in using accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes to weld all types of commonly used metals in various shapes, sizes and thicknesses.
Experience using a wider range of metal welding processes to make more difficult welds meeting close tolerance, strength and other requirements. These welds may be in hard to reach places.
Experience which allows the welder to devise special jigs and fixtures to hold the parts to be welded.
Experience which demonstrates knowledge of several related trade procedures.  E
Experience which enables the lay out and planning of work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications and work orders.

-- Knowledge of a variety of manual welding processes (e.g., several different gas torches, various electric arcs including inert gas-shielded arcs or a number of both kinds of processes) to weld all types of commonly used metals and alloys.

-- Knowledge of a wide range of manual welding processes to accomplish difficult welds.  This includes welds in hard to reach places that must meet close tolerances, strength, and other requirements; gas welding torch processes that involve oxyacetylene, oxyhydrogen, and other industrial gases; and arc and inert gas shielded processes using methods such as metal-arc, gas tungsten-arc.

-- Skill in making welds that require complete penetration and fusion of base and filler metals.




HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates experience is evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibly criteria/assignments will be followed. The applicants record of exeperience, training and education must show possession of the knowledge, skill and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position to be filled.

OTHER INFORMATION:
1.     Should a position be announced at less than the authorized grade, the selected applicant may be non-competitively promoted when he/she meets all qualifications and is submitted for promotion by the supervisor.
2.     For Dual Status (Military Technician), Federal Law requires membership in the National Guard as a mandatory condition of employment.
3.     Employment is contingent upon successful completion of technician pre-employment physical for certain occupational series.
4.     Males applicants born after 31 December 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service System in compliance of the Defense Authorization Act of 1986, Section 1622.
5.     Selectees will be subject to the mandatory implementation of the Direct Electronic Funds Transfer (DD/EFT) program.
6.     Permanent Change of Station (PCS) is not authorized for this position.
7.     Selectees currently militarily assigned to another state are subject to the requirements and procedures of the Michigan Army National Guard (MIARNG) Interstate Transfer (IST) policies. You MUST coordinate with both the losing military unit and the IST Program Coordinator immediately upon notification of selection.  Selection into a position may cause a reduction in rank.  Questions regarding the policies and procedures may be directed to the IST Program Coordinator at 517-483-5768
