Job Description:
Performs manual Gas Tungsten Arc Welding operations on a diversified line of standard parts as specified by layout, welding diagram, or work instructions.
Responsibilities:
· Studies prints, drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
· Fits and positions items having a number of parts and uses welding fixtures where applicable.
· Performs setup operations, positioning and manual Gas Tungsten Arc Welding operations on similar and dissimilar metal alloys.
· Develops, selects, and maintains consistent welding techniques and processes to ensure maximum weld strength and uniformity. Welder may vary techniques within specified limits of recognized procedures.
· Demonstrates thorough knowledge of welding equipment features and the effects of parameter changes.
· Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications. Utilizes process control charts to report variances in processes. Work is subject to in-process and final inspection.
· In coordination with Maintenance Department, monitors preventive maintenance on welding equipment.
· Proceeds with general supervision. Instructions and guidance provided on setups, operating difficulties and new work.
· Demonstrates thorough knowledge of and conformity to Ace Precision Quality System Work Instruction requirements that govern Gas Tungsten Arc Welding operations.
· Maintains or exceeds production standards through organization and planning.
· Follows and complies with safety rules, regulations, and work instructions.
· Accurately completes all required documentation.
· Meets attendance policy requirements.
· Contributes to team effort by assisting in areas a needed.
Requirements:
· High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with courses in GTAW technique, shop mathematics, mechanical drawing, material characteristics, and structural fundamentals.
· This job position requires two to five years of manual Gas Tungsten Arc Welding and related trades experience to acquire sufficient background in GTAW techniques, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· The GTAW welder must maintain certification on all joint configurations on high temperature alloys by qualifying a groove and fillet welding test on 0.020” and 0.064” material thickness on Stainless Steel, Nickel Alloy, and Cobalt Alloy materials (17-4PH, Inconel 718, Haynes 188). The ability to qualify Aluminum alloy material is a plus.
· Familiarity is required of weld symbols per AWS A2.4 Symbols for Welding and AWS A3.0 Standard Welding Terms and Definitions.
· Ability to apply shop mathematics, interpret complicated and involved drawings, specifications, formulas, and demonstrates competence in use of precision measuring instruments.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. A vision examination will be administered by a certified medical physician. Individuals must meet the following minimum standards in for each eye, corrected or uncorrected: 1) Distance Vision " 20/30 or better and 2) permits reading of a Jaeger #2 chart at a distance of 12 inches.
