Manufacturing Engineer (Welder)
The Manufacturing Engineer will proficiently provide technical support and guidance to assigned production
Departments, Update and create manufacturing and quality engineering documents and procedures. Engineer will coordinate and conduct manufacturing tests on machines and/or processes to meet safety,
Quality, throughput, and cost objectives. To serve as coordinator for assigned projects.
Job Responsibilities:
Design and draw tooling for machines and prepare associated documentation as necessary.
Conduct and analyze tests on production machines in order to verify improvements and capability.
Participate on Kaizen teams for assigned department(s).
Train Manufacturing Technicians on new equipment using verbal and written communications.
Write and update machine control software.
Contact Customers and Suppliers to reconcile production and engineering issues.
Provide Purchasing with a list of required parts to stock for machine and tooling maintenance. Assist as necessary with vendor selection.
Troubleshoot process-related production problems as required.
Participate in the Engineering High Performance Team.
Plan and lead assigned projects.
Perform other job-related duties as required.
Special Skills:
Must have machine design experience, Forging or machining experience, CAD experience, DOE experience, metallurgy, problem-solving ability, knowledge of team troubleshooting concepts, knowledge of machinery, PLCs, G-codes, M-codes and motion controllers, and good verbal and written communications skills.
Physical Requirements:
Sit with intermittent walking, manual dexterity for such duties as stapling, collating, sorting, filing, typing, and writing, communicating (hearing and speech) with individuals in person and by phone, reading reports, computer screen, etc. and maintaining a minimum of 8 hours worked/day, 5 days/week.
Customer Service:
Extensive internal contact and interactions with various individuals and teams to coordinate, follow up, and solve customer/plant problems. External contact with customers, vendors, etc. are required in furnishing, obtaining or exchanging information and to resolve engineering related problems or to manage new projects/products.
Job Scope:
Develop or transfer new technology or process that will reduce costs and increase capacity and flexibility. Lead team for new equipment procurement and implementation until fully operational.
Problem Solving/Decision Making:
Most Typical Problem:
If a part of a machine does not function well, the Manufacturing Engineer would work on a redesign, suggest reworking or replacing.
Most Complex Problem:
Solving a very infrequently occurring problem on a production machine. Which requires an extreme amount of type find and analyze problem.
Education:
B. S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant technical degree.
Experience:
3-5 years of manufacturing experience. Experience with resistance welding and automation preferred.
