THIS POSITION WILL:
Fit and/or Weld fabricated steel components in the assembly and production of ocean-going barges and related equipment while complying with company Health, Safety, and Environmental Processes.
Responsible for fabrication welding requirements including manual, semi-automatic, automatic and all-position including using oxygen/acetylene gas torch for cutting or pre-heat. Perform material fitting work including lay-out and fit-up welded or bolted detail.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma/GED or 10th grade education with 6 months to 2 years equivalent industrial training and or equivalent industrial experience
• 2 years professional experience as a FITTER-WELDER in addition to related education and training
• Structural welding experience as a FITTER-WELDER
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Ability to weld and/or fit to American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standards.
• Ability to effectively and safely use tools used for welding and fitting such as: Torches, Hammer, Coupling Devices, Grinder, Portable Welding Machines, Rigging Equipment, and Chain-Fall.
• Safely perform work in small and/or confined spaces, on ladders, and at heights of 20 feet or more.
• Effectively communicate information and ideas in English both verbally without assistance or translation.
• Complete installation and fabrication to exceed published standards and/or project specifications.
• Perform math calculations (add, subtract, divide, multiply) and use mathematics based logic to solve complex problems.
• Accurately use a tape measure and other measuring devices.
WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in a wide variety of environments including heights of 20 feet or more, small and/or confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather conditions. Will routinely bend, twist, kneel, walk, climb, and reach for 1-12 hours per day. Will sit, stand, and walk for 1-12 hours per day. Will endure noise, fumes, dust, and inclement weather.
Must be able to lift and carry 1-80 lbs throughout the day. Must be able to push or pull up to 75 lbs and safely wear a respirator when needed.
Must have the ability to perform the essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others.
