Welding Engineer

Basic Function:
The Welding Engineer reports directly to the corporate Director of Global Quality with welding process responsibility for global Energy locations as well as at key strategic suppliers. This position establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, failure analysis, weld inspection, material processes, non-destructive testing analysis, pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post-heating requirements.

Responsibilities & Duties:
 Establish the requirements in respect to all welding, materials and NDT activities in accordance with the applicable Specifications, Codes, and Standards
 Provide technical advice and support to awarded projects in relation to materials, welding, and fabrication issues
 Welding process preparation and advise on base materials selection and application
 Creation and approval of all welding documents and Qualification of welding processes in accordance with ISO 15607 and ISO 15614
 Develop materials procurement and application specifications
 Development and qualification of the weld testing and inspection procedures. Ability to interpret specification requirements and translate into practical procedural instructions
 Develop acceptance criteria and flaw evaluation procedures
 Specify requirements for the instruction and training of the welding personnel, welders, welding operators and NDT technicians at Crane Energy as well as at supplier locations. Train and examine the welders in accordance with EN 287
 Maintain close liaison with the Customer's Technical Representative and Third Parties regarding welding, materials and inspection activities
 Handling all welding technical queries and investigating all field welding related problems.
 Develop personnel and methods globally to ensure adequate preparation of Weld Maps and marking up of existing drawings.
 Qualifying and inspection at external suppliers with some source and first article inspections
Qualifications & Required Skills:
 A four (4) year welding engineering degree is preferred. Other degrees accepted are metallurgical or mechanical engineering with relevant welding experience.
 Practical shop or field fabrication experience and communication skills are required.
 Have or able to qualify for AWS QC-1 CWI certification.
 Knowledge of ASME B&PV and pressure piping Codes, API codes and NDT (RT, UT, MT, PT) preferred.
 Global travel required.
 Working knowledge of the quality system requirements as stated in ASME B and PV Code, Section III, NCA-4000, ANSI NQA-1, and MIL " 145208A
 Key interface between company and customers on welding related issues
 Ability to handle multiple projects and resources effectively to achieve required results
 Ability to interact effectively at all personnel levels and with all functional departments to achieve the objective of the quality management system
 Ability to make timely decisions
 Ability to perform tasks within tight time constraints
 Strong analytical skills and root cause analysis.
