Structural Welders
Position Summary: Employee will be responsible for welding structural steel using SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), and FCAW (Flux-core) must be proficient in all three processes. Work will be performed at the facility of a major defense contractor. Employee will help build warships such as surface combatants, submarines, and aircraft carriers for the U.S. Navy.
Candidates must pass a criminal background investigation that goes back indefinitely and a drug test. Employees are required to work in a physically demanding environment and may be required to pass a health and fitness examination.
Experience: Qualified candidates must possess at least 4 years welding experience. One year of formal training may be substituted for one year of work experience, pending coordinator approval. Any combination of experience and/or formal training must also be approved by site coordinator.
Required Skills and/or Qualifications: Candidate must have passed an ABS or AWS welding certification test with stick and flux core in the vertical and overhead position at some point in their recent past. Those tests will have to have been bend and /or X-rayed with positive results. Welders will be required to pass fillet and butt weld test using SMAW (stick), GMAW (gas metal arc or MIG), and FCAW (flux-core). Must be proficient with a heating torch and air carbon arc gouging. Welder must also be able to properly use weld gauges.
